Though 2009 brought various economic challenges — caused by the global financial meltdown — the year also brought many opportunities. With 2010 underway, more than $210 million in government stimulus investments are flowing through the Sault, including a:
• New federal bridge plaza ($44 M)
• New academic wing for Sault College ($16M)
• Biosciences and Technology Centre for Algoma U ($16M)
• Alien Invasive Species Centre ($28.4M)
• New building for Algoma Public Health Unit ($22M)
• Elementary and secondary schools ($60.7M)
• Third Line extension ($10.7M)
• Expansion to Waterfront Boardwalk and Hub Trail ($5M)
• Social housing renovations ($4.9M)
• YMCA/John Rhodes Centre improvements ($3.3M)
• Rail line upgrades ($1.5M)
• Ermatinger-Clergue Historic Site upgrades ($1M)
