Help your community move at the 2015 Youth Engagement Forum March 10

Posted: Feb 26, 2015

Calling all area youth: community agencies want to hear your ideas on how to make Sault Ste. Marie a better place to live, learn, work and play.

At the 2015 Youth Engagement Forum, you can help your city move forward. This year’s event is taking place Tuesday, March 10 starting at 9 a.m. (registration at 8:30 a.m.) in the Machine Shop at Mill Square, located on the former St. Marys Paper site.

Youth, ages 11 to 29, along with adult allies, can register for the forum at https://eventbrite.ca/event/15846435114/.

At the 2015 youth forum, participants will engage in dialogue on a number of topics, including leadership, entrepreneurship, entertainment and communication. Adult allies, from various groups throughout the community, will also be in attendance to learn how they can better provide services and activities for area youth.

“I’m excited to be participating in this year’s youth forum,” said Mayor Christian Provenzano. “I feel that there has been meaningful progress made on many of the issues identified last year. I’m looking forward to continuing the discussion with local youths about what is important to them and about what they to want to see in our community.”

With sponsorship from the Province of Ontario, Algoma Workforce Investment Corporation, Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation and Employment Solutions, the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre is presenting this event in conjunction with Vive Consulting.

A number of individuals and group are helping to facilitate the forum, including Mill Square, Algoma District School Board, Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, Algoma University, Sault College, Social Enterprise Evolution - NORDIK, Sault Community Career Centre, Awesome Youth from Youth Social Infrastructure, Indian Friendship Centre, STRIVE Young Professionals Group, Algoma Youth Engagement Network - Algoma Public Health, Thinking Rock Community Arts, Crank Sound Distribution, Kina’s Katering, and Start-Up Sault.
